HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK! Indigo

This week, KleinLiving has chosen to feature “Indigo Restaurant” as a Hot Spot of the Week. Although it is not in Klein, it’s a Houston local restaurant, focusing on Neo-Soul food.
Last Saturday, it was my 22nd Wedding Anniversary, and to celebrate, my husband made special reservations at Indigo.

It is a very unique place, small and private with only 13 sittings in a curved communal table. With two tasting menus to choose from (Herbivore and Omnivore) and personalized attention and hospitality by the chef. Chef Jonny’s menu is very different, it has a combination of ingredients that were commonly used in the early history of African Americans with a modern sophisticated twist.

Last weekend, we had the Omnivore menu which consisted of 5 dishes. Each dish was carefully crafted. From the first, “Cosmic Order”, “Violence of Hunger, “If Earth Could Talk”, “Commodity of Experience” and “Sugar Cane Flowers”. My favorite was “Violence of Hunger” because of the richness of flavor with the duck preserve and mushrooms. The venison was tender and flavorful. And for dessert, the combination of the softness of chilled yam semifreddo, crunchiness of the pecans, and sweetness of the warm molasses was fantastic. It is a BYOB restaurant, so we had the opportunity to enjoy our favorite Ribera del Duero wine with Chef Jonny’s creations.

Please share this blog, so more people can support this local business. At this time, they are open Wednesday through Sunday by reservation only.
