HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK: Avila Flavors & Experiences

This week KleinLiving Hot Spot of the Week is “Avila Experiences”. It’s a Micro restaurant; located onThe Woodlands.

About a month ago we were visiting the Tomball Farmer’s Market when we came across Avila Experiences, They sell paella and empanadas at the market and other homemade with a Latin flare food. We bought a paella and it was delicious. Chef Nelson told us that they were planning their first gathering at his store-front micro restaurant at the end of March.
We participated on the first opening night at Avila Experiences. We had a table reservation for four. The restaurant is intimate, sitting for 20 people. The decoration was casual and comfortable with a lot of personalized details from the menu, to the cutlery pocket to my husband’s names. It’s a single menu that includes: appetizer, Salad, Main course and Desert, and BYO wine if you would like some with the dinner. These experiences are by reservation only and they have live music and include some interaction in the kitchen if you feel like participating in some of the cooking.

The menu included: Tour of Latin America Empanada Trio, a Tropical Salad, a Filet Mignon, and a Belgian Chocolate Profiterole with great live music and fantastic hostesses: chef Nelson and his wife.

The food was excellent. all the dishes were carefully cooked with very unique and distinct flavors. The trio of Empanadas includes a Venezuelan empanada, made out of fried corn dough and filled with fish, it was crispy and remained me the flavors of home. An Argentinian beef empanada, made out of flour dough filled with beef and baked. the dough was thin and the filling very tasty. And, The Colombian cheese empanada was made out of fried flour dough and filled with cheese. What I love about this appetizer was the three different empanada styles, all crispy, warm, and with the distich flavors of each country. Next, came the Tropical Salad, it was fresh and the combination of goat cheese, mango, and passion fruit vinaigrette were delicious. For the main course, we had the opportunity to go to the kitchen. The ladies helped with the plating, adding sweet potato puree to the plates and gentlemen helped to finish the Fillet mignon according to their preferences (well done, medium and rare) with the guidance of Chef Nelson. The Fillet was very tender and juicy and it was topped with a red wine sauce. To end the night, we had the “Belgian Chocolate Profiterole”, the presentation was beautiful, the dough was crispy and the chocolate filling and ganache were delicious.

We love this place so much because it was a truly enjoyable experience. Chef Nelson and his wife took care of all the little details, from decoration, serving, commenting on the dishes, live music, personal interaction, and the fun experience at the kitchen to the star of the night the food. We felt treated, well taken care of with delicious food, company, music in a very unique and intimate setting.
